The vast majority of beef cattle are raised on the wide-open rangeland that constitutes so much of Americas cattle country and because they are fed maize, hay and cereals in the open air, American beef's has gained an unrivalled reputation for quality, taste, tenderness and safety.

Ensuring quality is a major part of America's beef industry and to make sure nothing is left to chance, U.S. beef is subject to a voluntary and strictly defined grading program. The grading is conducted by a USDA Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS) grader, whose responsibility it is to grade the beef according to its consistency and marbling.

At John Wells we import only American beef which has been graded USDA 'Choice' or above, ensuring that we provide you with beef with a tenderness and tastiness that is unsurpassed.
Alberta is the hub of the beef industry in Canada. All the neccessities for beef production are here including: fresh air and water, frosty winters and warm summers, an abundant supply of feed grains and thousands of hectares of grazing land. All of these factors breed healthy, hardy animals, in a humane way, to give Alberta beef it's superior world-renowned quality and flavour.

Free range grazing is practiced in Alberta, and ranches dot the entire province. Most calves are born in the spring on the open range, and left to graze with their mothers.

Cattle are not given any growth promotants hormones, drugs, antibiotics or chemical supplements in their feed rations. Feedlot finishing is the final phase of beef cattle production in Alberta. High quality natural feed, scheduled feeding and clean readily available water allow the cattle to grow in an open area, with fresh air, without stress, naturally. Barley, a prime feed source unique to Western Canada's feedlots is a high protein high energy feed which contains more protein than corn.

Canadian beef from Alberta offers the great unique taste of the west.
